Yesterday, July 21, suspended Mayor of Irpin Oleksandr Markushyn called on residents of the community to attend a rally in his support. However, his call was ignored by the people of Irpin. Only a few dozen former executive committee employees, who had been dismissed alongside Markushyn, showed up — less than 0.0001% of the community’s population.
Meanwhile, today the Pechersk District Court in Kyiv is set to hold a hearing to determine a preventive measure for Markushyn. Since January 24 of this year, he has been in pre-trial detention, and for the past several months has been under nighttime house arrest.
Markushyn is a suspect in dozens of criminal cases being investigated by the National Police, the Bucha District Prosecutor’s Office, and the State Bureau of Investigation. The charges include kidnapping, embezzlement of public funds, payroll fraud schemes, manipulation of developer contributions, and the funneling of funds to affiliated companies. It’s worth noting that residents have stopped attending court hearings or rallies in support of Markushyn.
