On October 13, the Sviatoshynskyi Court of Kyiv imposed a preventive measure on former Irpin mayor Oleksandr Markushyn — bail in the amount of ₴323,000 in a case concerning the write-off of a municipal boiler facility and its transfer to his godmother. He faces three to six years in prison with confiscation of property.
When questioned by the judge, Markushyn was unable to remember the address of his new fake registration in the city of Cherkasy, and simply “froze.”
On August 19, Markushyn deregistered from Irpin and immediately registered in Cherkasy in an attempt to influence the court handling a motion of no confidence. The registration in Cherkasy gave him the legal opportunity to file his case with the Cherkasy Administrative Court instead of the Kyiv District Administrative Court — which would have been logical considering his previous work and area of activity. He is reportedly seeking influential connections among local judges to increase his chances of winning the case.
Oleksandr Markushyn is a figure in dozens of criminal proceedings conducted by the National Police, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the State Bureau of Investigation. Among them are kidnapping and pressure on businesses, “salary schemes” in the city council, embezzlement of humanitarian aid for the Armed Forces (five Infiniti vehicles), and the transfer of municipal property and land to controlled entities.
