Oleksandr Markushyn, Mayor of Irpin:
“A city should not be oversaturated with outdoor advertising; therefore, we will be revoking some permits.”
This is one of the latest public statements from Oleksandr Markushyn, the Mayor of Irpin – an official who happens to be one of the key players in the outdoor advertising market in the region.
You heard that correctly, and we are not mistaken! Yes, that billboard, this one, that one over there… and dozens of others belong to Oleksandr Markushyn.
The story began back in 2011 when a company called MAG-13 LLC was registered in Irpin. Its primary activity was mediation in advertising placement, with additional services including printing and activities in the field of architecture.
From 2012 to 2023, the company was officially owned by Markushyn’s mother, Mariia Markushyna. After her passing, the business was briefly registered under Oksana Nakonechna, who currently heads the Department of Social Protection at the Irpin City Council. By 2023, Oleksandr Markushyn officially appeared as the ultimate beneficiary of MAG-13, holding a 90% stake in the business.
Interestingly, considering the mayor’s Russian-speaking background, it is possible that the company’s name was not chosen at random: MAG might stand for Markushyn Aleksandr Grigoryevich. But that’s just speculation.
Now, back to the facts.
In 2020, the executive committee of the Irpin City Council granted Markushyn’s company permission to place an astounding 44 outdoor advertising structures in the city.
And now, Markushyn has declared a crusade against outdoor advertising in Irpin. The question is, why?
Could it be that the mayor is tired of running the business? After all, income from MAG-13 is not listed in his official declaration. Or, perhaps, this move is a strategic way to expand his business horizons by eliminating competitors?
Draw your own conclusions.
