Today, the Pechersk District Court removed Oleksandr Markushyn from the position of Mayor of Irpin as part of a criminal investigation into the organization of illegal departures from Ukraine during martial law.

According to media reports, Markushyn is a suspect in more than 10 criminal cases. Evidence and documents under the jurisdiction of the Irpin City Council Executive Committee were systematically destroyed in these cases to help a group of officials evade criminal liability.
At the same time, there were threats against witnesses, the demonstration of criminal case materials, and “suggestions” to refuse testimony, with hints that “everything is under control in the prosecutor’s office.”
Using his official position, Markushyn systematically pressured witnesses, dismissing two deputy mayors who had provided testimony in the criminal cases.
The mayor also dismissed one of the deputy mayors and deliberately paid lower salaries to other witnesses.
